Team...can I talk to my unemployed and open to work friends for a minute?
Let me clarify - "unemployed" is the wrong word.
The right word (the ones we have heard over and over again...)
over qualified
not part of the industry
internal hires
and my favorite... "we have decided to go in another direction."
What direction is that exactly?
Us job seekers are tired and defeated. How many automated emails with the EXACT SAME VERBIAGE can one person handle? Mind you...this is for the one that has exhausted his/her unemployment benefits and, most likely, savings and, most likely also, retirement.
Give. Me. A. Break.
The job market is not broken. The hiring process is.
Recruiters: do you rely AI and ATS to vet resumes? And is it a case of analysis paralysis where there is just so many to sift through you pick the first few that catch your eye? If so, I think your job is impossible and we are in your corner (we just hope to be invited to stay in your corner...)
Jobseekers: don't you dare give up. But take some days off every week. We all pounce on new roles and want to make sure we are an "early applicant." Go back to networking with humans. Reach out to them. The good news is that AI won't actually hire us - humans will!
Human to human - the right role is coming. And I am right there with you, in the unemployment line wondering what kind of bread and milk I will get this week. Can I get an amen?
